A Proposal for a Rhetorical-Discursive Organization of the Clinical Case in Phonoaudiology
Abstract
The aim of this paper was to propose a rhetoric-discursive organization (RD-O) model for clinical cases in the field of phonoaudiology , based on a discourse genre analysis approach. By using a qualitative methodology, we analyzed a corpus of ten scientific articles published between 2019 and 2025 in phonoaudiology journals indexed in Scopus Q2, which allowed us to identify six macromoves, sixteen moves, and eighteen steps that define the genre in this discipline. Additionally, ethnographic data was collected through interviews with three academic and professional female phonoaudiologists. The findings show that the clinical case in phonoaudiology has a complex structure and specific communicative functions that differ from the traditional model in other healthcare fields. It is concluded that the proposed model allows for a systematic description of this discursive practice and that guidelines need to be established to guide its writing and analysis in specialized contexts.
